Small-business consulting · Cleveland, Ohio
Your business is working. Let's make it work better.
Together we can identify where improvement will have the greatest impact — then turn the evidence into a clear, prioritized plan for moving forward.
At a glance
Improved outcomes start with a clear view of the operation.
We look closely at how the business operates, what matters most for the work ahead, and what will work in practice.
Where we look
Four lenses on one business.
What looks like a marketing problem often starts with pricing, process, capacity, or the customer experience. So we look at the whole business, then find the pressure point.
How we start
Two ways in. One practice.
Two pathways, one consulting practice — each grounded in how your business operates and shaped around what you need to move forward.
Diagnostic-Led Engagement
We assess the operation to identify where improvement can have the greatest impact and what deserves attention first.
For when you recognize a pressure point and need a clear starting point.
Project-Based Engagement
We plan and carry out a project you've already defined, with support for the planning, the doing, or both.
For when the objective is clear and you want the execution to be just as clear.
Not sure which door is yours? That's what the first conversation is for.
See how each works →What makes it different
Clarity before complexity.
Most owners already recognize where there may be room to improve. The harder part is determining what is driving the opportunity and where change will have the greatest impact.
Evidence-led
Recommendations connected to what can be seen, heard, and verified in your business.
Decision-ready
Every recommendation shows priority, effort, ownership, and tradeoffs, clearly enough for you to weigh them.
Built for small business
Practical enough to use without a corporate-sized team.
You leave knowing what deserves attention first, and why.
Next step
Bring the Friction.
We'll identify the operational priority and build the diagnostic around what the business needs most.
Approach
Two ways in. One way of working.
Some businesses need clarity on where to begin. Others already have a defined objective and need support carrying it forward. Breaking Thresholds offers a pathway for both.
Pathway one
Diagnostic-Led Engagement
For businesses that want to identify and prioritize the right opportunities before defining the work.
You recognize a pressure point and need clarity on what deserves priority.
- 01
Observe the operation
See the work as it actually happens, from roles and handoffs to tools and workspaces.
- 02
Verify the evidence
Connect what people experience to records, recurring patterns, delays, and rework.
- 03
Prioritize the pressure point
Determine which constraint deserves attention first, and what can reasonably wait.
- 04
Identify the strongest path forward
Compare viable options, weigh the tradeoffs, and clarify what should happen next.
A practical roadmap for addressing the priority area, tracking progress, and sustaining improvement.
Pathway two
Project-Based Engagement
For businesses with a defined objective that need support planning, executing, or both.
You know what you want to accomplish and need a clear path to execution.
- 01
Align on the objective
Confirm the intended outcome, requirements, constraints, and available capabilities.
- 02
Plan the execution
Define actions, milestones, resources, responsibilities, and sequencing.
- 03
Carry out the work
Execute the agreed implementation or production activities.
- 04
Monitor and adapt
Track progress, address constraints, and adjust as needed.
A defined project carried through with an execution path built around your business.
After either pathway
Choose the support that fits you.
Move forward with the level of support that matches your goals, priorities, and capacity.
Planning
Turn the priority or defined project into a clear plan for moving forward, with scope, responsibilities, sequencing, and next steps established.
Implementation
Carry the agreed plan into action through the hands-on work, coordination, and execution needed to complete the defined scope.
Ongoing support
Continue supporting the work after implementation through follow-up, monitoring, reinforcement, and practical adjustments as needed.
Capabilities
Systems don't improve in isolation.
Four lenses, one business. Any one can be the place to start, but meaningful improvement often requires understanding how they work together.

About
Grounded, on purpose.
Breaking Thresholds was built around one belief: small-business owners deserve recommendations grounded in the reality of their business, not theory dropped in from a distance.
Caprice Corlew · Founder & Principal Consultant
I've spent years working across both small businesses and large organizations, and one thing is consistent: processes stop working.Caprice Corlew
The thinking
I notice when the way something is being done no longer fits the people doing it. My experience has involved working with teams to improve those processes, train the people responsible for carrying them out, and untangle the operational details that are easy to overlook when everyone is focused on keeping the day moving.
That interest in how strategy actually works inside organizations is also what led me to earn my master's in Strategic Leadership, specializing in Strategy as Practice. Breaking Thresholds brings those experiences together: practical operational work, collaborative problem-solving, and strategy that is meant to be used — not just discussed.
Working together
Thoughtful. Direct. Actually useful.
I ask human questions
Plain-language conversations designed to understand how the business really runs, not to catch anyone out.
I say what the evidence supports
What I can see, hear, and verify goes in the recommendation. What I can't, doesn't.
You can evaluate the tradeoffs
Options come with their costs and effort, so the decision stays yours, and stays informed.
Local by design. Cleveland-based, serving businesses within a two-hour radius.
